Contrary to Juventus and Inter, Milan have kept a low profile during the January transfer window and the reasons for their choice have been explained.

The Rossoneri have not completed any major signing in the winter transfer window despite injuries to their starting centre-backs Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori.

The former Chelsea defender will remain out of action for a month, but Kjaer will only return in 2022-23 after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in December.

Milan’s main transfer target was – and still is – Lille’s Sven Botman, but the Ligue 1 champions didn’t want to sell the Dutchman in January.

The Rossoneri will make a new attempt in the summer, but they must end the current campaign with Tomori, Alessio Romagnoli, Pierre Kalulu and Matteo Gabbia.

As explained by Milannews.it, the Diavoli did not want to sign a player they didn’t believe in. They were open to making a big-money offer for one of their top targets, such as Botman or Torino‘s Gleison Bremer but had to deal with their clubs’ reluctance to sell.

Milan preparing for summer investment in a top striker

They had set their sights on Manchester United’s Eric Bailly and Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga but dropped them after the signing of 18-year-old Marko Lazetic, who filled their last spot for non-EU players.

Lazovic replaced Pietro Pellegri, who joined Torino on loan via Monaco.

Milan coach Stefano Pioli and club directors believe the current team is already competitive to get to the end of the season.

The Rossoneri were eliminated from Europe, so they are only involved in Serie A and Coppa Italia.

Milan are already preparing for the summer when they will need to buy a centre-back, a centre midfielder and a new striker.

  1. Let’s see if they make the op 4 this season because if they do not then this winter mercato was an absolute waste for them.

  2. Milan‘s biggest need for the second half of the season is not being active in the winter window, but players staying fit!!!

The summer window largely met the squad’s needs bar competition for Diaz. Pellegri was a gamble which didn’t pay off, but if fit, it is either ibra or giroud in that position. No european competition means the squad is big enough to cope with league and coppa.

  3. It’ll be interesting to see if they can hold onto the top 4 now, given Juve’s star signing, Atalanta staying quite strong, and Napoli still in the running.

Inter should be champions, but the race for the next 3 spots between 4 teams could go all the way to the wire.

Roma, Lazio, and Fiorentina will probably fall away.

  4. WHY MILAN KEPT A LOW PROFILE IN THE JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW

Umm because there weren’t many 35 – 40+ year old’s on the market this January??

  5. The way Kalulu has slotted into the centre and Gabbia seems to have lifted his game it’s hard to blame them. Hopefully we’ll see Tomori a gome or two sooner than expected, but the main issue seems to be whether Giroid and Diaz are gonna find some form and if Zlatan can get bsck to full fitness and be there when he’s needed. Bennacer is back to partner Tonali, so Krunic and Kessie can keep the bench warm, unless Sanchez arrives today, then Kessie can get some action for the primavera.

  6. @FERBAN

Juve star signing?? Are you talking about the serbia andy carrrol or the new momo sissoko from borussia.m? The Serbian Andy Carrol might just get them to have a shot on goal the next time they face milan.

  7. @Vinnie

There are some murmurs that Tomori might even return in time for the derby, but maybe that’s being too optimistic.

Bennacer will not be ahead of Kessie if both available in any team, time, dimension or reality. It’s Tonali and Kessie with Bennacer as backup. At least until the end of the season anyway.

  8. Oof Rosario, I know you’re angry Milan didn’t make any investment but to insult Vlahovic and Zakaria is.. delusional. To call Vlahovic a Serbian Andy Caroll when your main strikers have a combined of 75. One is walking with a crutch and the other has less mobility than Andy Caroll. I’m not even a Juve fan but they plugged the gap that needed it, which you can’t say for Milan. I won’t even be surprised if Milan dropped out of top 4.

  9. Rosario, Milan did do the job against Juve this year, if tied on points with Juve, Milan will prevail on better away goal record. Atalanta and Napoli have stayed quite in this market too, Milan has got a fair shot at top four and even the Scudetto if the beat Inter on Saturday!

  10. I think most Milan fans understand we don’t have the cash to splash and will need to be very frugal for another couple of years.
Management have taken a position that big names needing big wages may not be sustainable at this point.

I wish I was wrong, maybe I am.

  11. The truth is that none of the Italian clubs have the money, just some decided to keep spending money they don’t have.

  12. I wouldn’t be surprised if Roma overtook Milan & Napoli. Abraham is coming into form and Milan don’t really have a goal scorer that can stay fit. And Insigne is a big loss for Napoli. Its like they don’t want the title.
