Andriy Shevchenko has confirmed on social media that he will become the new Genoa coach.

Il Grifone sacked Davide Ballardini after their 2-2 draw away at Empoli on Saturday.

Genoa are involved in the race for survival, having collected just nine points 12 games.

They’ve won one match since the start of the season, with six draws and five defeats.

Shevchenko is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Grifone next week.

The former Milan and Chelsea striker took to his social media to confirm his appointment as Genoa coach.

The Twitter account of the Rossoblu posted a Ukraine flag and Sheva replied by sharing blue and red dots.

Shevchenko will make his Serie A debut as a coach on Sunday, November 21, against José Mourinho’s Roma.

The Special One was Shevchenko’s coach at Chelsea in 2006-07.
