The announcement that Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny will miss tomorrow’s Supercoppa Italiana final is good news for Inter.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri highlighted in a press conference earlier today that the Polish goalkeeper will miss tomorrow’s game because he doesn’t have a green pass yet. The former Arsenal shot stopper only received his first vaccine jab recently, meaning that he won’t get a green pass until Thursday.

The new anti-COVID rules introduced by the government forbid players who don’t have a green pass from having direct contact with their teammates in the hours leading up to the match.

This is a major problem for Allegri and Juventus, as now backup goalkeeper Mattia Perin will have to play for the first time in over a month against Inter. Szczesny is currently experiencing a period of strong form, as seen with his decisive penalty save in the 4-3 win over Roma, and whilst Perin is a reliable backup, there’s a clear gulf in quality between him and the Pole.

It remains to be seen if Juventus’ weaker backline can do enough to deny Inter in tomorrow’s match, but it’s clear that with Perin in goal, Leonardo Bonucci injured and Matthijs de Ligt suspended, the defence will have a tougher time against the Nerazzurri.
