There was interest from Sampdoria and newly-promoted Bologna, but they baulked at the €10m asking price, even though it’s half what Liverpool paid Milan only a year ago.

According to Sky Sport Italia, agent Mino Raiola called both Roma and Fiorentina to ask if they wanted to take Balotelli on this season.

However, they did not seem interested, maintaining he could cause more problems under the glare of the Serie A spotlight.

Both these clubs are looking for centre-forwards, though Roma are close to securing Edin Dzeko from Manchester City for €18m plus €5m in bonuses.

Fiorentina are rebuilding with new Coach Paulo Sousa and sent Mario Gomez on loan to Besiktas.

Their primary target seems to be Giallorossi benchwarmer Mattia Destro.
