Roma are pushing hard to bring Davide Frattesi back to base, having sold the Italy international to Sassuolo for €5m, and have a few ways of lowering the cost.

He is one of the many products of the youth academy who was allowed to get away, as Sassuolo picked him up in 2017 for just €5m, plus 30 per cent of any future transfer fee.

It is that clause that could help them significantly lower the cost of the operation to bring the 22-year-old back to the Stadio Olimpico.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Calciomercato.com, the asking price has dropped from the original €40m to €30m.

This is because earlier in the summer Frattesi had been the subject of a bidding war including Inter, Juventus and Milan, who all seem to have pulled out and gone for other targets instead.

Roma can also further lower the fee by including a player as part of the exchange, such as Felix Afena-Gyan or Cristian Volpato, so would end up paying just €15m cash.

Frattesi scored four goals and provided four assists in 36 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo this season, earning him his senior Italy debut.
