Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri stormed off the pitch after the 1-1 draw with Milan on Sunday and DAZN reporter Tommaso Turci revealed he tried to tell Giorgio Chiellini to change formation earlier.

The reports in Italian media claimed there could be a problem between Allegri and Federico Chiesa after the match against the Rossoneri, as the coach claimed he made the wrong substitutions during the match.

What’s behind Allegri’s words on Chiesa

As Allegri said he should have closed the game by bringing on more defensive players, rumours emerged regarding the relationship between the coach and the Italy international.

Juventus sit 18th in Serie A ahead of the next match against Spezia and are still without a win in the League since Allegri returned to the Allianz Stadium.

Turci, who was reporting from the sidelines in Turin, revealed Allegri ‘struggled to communicate’ with the players after Ante Rebic scored the equaliser for the Diavolo.

“He was quite calm in the first 75 minutes, then in the last 15, after Rebic’s goal, he was really angry,” pitch reporter Turci told DAZN.

“He wanted to switch to 4-3-3, but struggled to communicate with the team. He tried to speak to Chiellini, trying to explain to him that the team should have swapped formation as soon as possible, with ‘Kulu’ [Dejan Kulusevski] at right and Chiesa at left.

“In the end, they managed to change system, but they should have done it before and earlier.”

Juventus, who won 3-0 over Malmö FF in first round of the Champions League, are currently preparing for the trip to Liguria on Wednesday, as the Old Lady continues with an away game against Spezia.

  1. My God can you even imagine the coach of Man U, or Man City or Barcelona or Real Madrid or Bayern Munich or any top level team make a statement to media and fans after a 1-1 draw that they made a mistake by not “closing shop” earlier to protect their 1-0 lead????? A lead which was achieved in the first 10 or so minutes of the game? Ludicrous. Real big teams are always trying to win a game not trying to protect a lead.

  2. Donato…the best defensive team ALWAYS wins in Serie A. This way we have won for decades. Winning is everything. Learn Juve. The Juve we love.

  3. The best defensive my ass. It might have been enough in Italy but in CL you are the biggest laughing stock. 7/9 CL final defeats more than any team still to this day. I would be more concerned about the 4 goals you have only managed to score with this impotent build up play. Inter scored more goals in one game against Bologna then in your 4 games.

  4. And if they’d won, or one of those players had scored or assisted in a second goal he’d be saying how great the subs were. It’s all circumstantial.

  5. Donato, what was meant about going to a 4-3-3 was that late in the second half with a 1-0 lead Allegri wanted to play a more defensive game for the last 15-20 minutes. It was not closing shop per say, as we can counter attack at anytime. It was a smart move, that happened to late. Not just Juve but many teams go this route and sub in players that better suite this formation. If you understand soccer you understand this. All is good. Forza Juve.
