Roma coach Jose Mourinho has lost the appeal against a two-match touchline ban for his row with fourth official Marco Serra, so will be suspended against Sassuolo and Lazio.
The incident occurred during the Giallorossi’s 2-1 defeat to Cremonese, when Serra and Mourinho had a brief discussion on the sidelines, prompting a furious response from the coach.
Mourinho insisted he had been insulted by Serra and that his reaction was therefore proportionate to the provocation from a member of the refereeing team.
His two-match ban was suspended pending further investigation, so he was able to be on the bench for last weekend’s 1-0 win over Juventus.
However, today the two-match ban was confirmed, so Mourinho will not be on the touchline for the Sassuolo clash or the Derby della Capitale with Lazio.
He was also fined €10,000.
It was reported yesterday that Serra would be deferred to the Disciplinary Commission for breaking ethics rules in the Mourinho incident, but that has not been confirmed yet.
