There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off in every Italian match this weekend after 72 people died when a boat went down off the coast of Cutro.

The announcement was made by the FIGC this evening, on the suggestion of CONI President Giovanni Malagò.

A minute’s silence will be held before every Serie A, B and Lega Pro fixture, including tonight’s Week 26 opener between Spezia and Inter.

The boat broke apart in rough waters off the coast of Cutro, in Calabria, leaving 72 victims including women and at least 14 children.

Among those who died was 27-year-old Shahida Raza, the captain of Pakistan’s hockey team who also played for football club Balochistan United, where she had the nickname Chintu.

Meanwhile, this weekend Serie A was already set to unveil a new Keep Racism Out campaign video, including the world’s most followed TikTok star Khaby Lame.

Born in Senegal and moving to Italy at the age of one, Lame has over 155 million followers on the social media platform.
