Nicolo Zaniolo’s agent Claudio Vigorelli met Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto yesterday to discuss a contract renewal, but the talks didn’t prove fruitful amid links with Milan and Juventus.

The 22-year-old Italian forward had a difficult season under Jose Mourinho, plagued by inconsistency in Serie A but finding more success in the Europa Conference League. With a contract expiring in 2024, his possible renewal has been one of the hottest topics in Giallorossi circles in recent months.

As detailed by Calciomercato.com, Zaniolo wants his new salary to match up with the top players in the squad like Lorenzo Pellegrini and Tammy Abraham, around €5m net per season. Roma are not willing to increase his wages this much, although they do agree a slight raise is justified.

Talks between Vigorelli and Pinto yesterday didn’t see any progress in this situation and so a sale is not out of the question this summer, although the club’s high valuation of €50-60m has proved troublesome.

Milan and Juventus have both been linked with a move for Zaniolo, but so far no official offers have arrived. The two Italian clubs have tentatively discussed some player exchange deals but nothing concrete, and the Roman club are mostly looking for cash.
