Milan had two complaints about the referee during the first half of their game with Lazio, so former official Luca Marelli gave his verdict on the decisions.

The Rossoneri went into the break a goal down at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to an early Ciro Immobile strike.

Thomas Strakosha risked a red card moments later when his clearance hit Junior Messias and bounced back onto his hands outside the penalty area.

The referee opted for a yellow because it was a ricochet, and therefore unintentional, his hands were in front of his body and did not make his silhouette any larger, but also Messias was going wide and not directly at the goal.

DAZN refereeing expert Marelli agreed with the decision to only apply a booking rather than a dismissal in this case.

However, Marelli was less convinced by the second debate, which was an appeal for a Luis Alberto handball in the penalty area.

Brahim Diaz and Luis Alberto were close together when the ball ricocheted off the Lazio man’s knee and onto his arm.

While the ricochet arguably would make it unintentional, there were some concerns that Luis Alberto’s arm was quite wide apart from the torso.

Marelli did not say it was or wasn’t a penalty, but that there were “many doubts” over the verdict.

  1. Fifa rule changed ” Lazio man’s knee and onto his arm.” This is no longer considered a handball because the ball hit the player’s body first then make contact to the player’s hand, FIFA CHANGED THIS ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO OR 3 YEARS AGO.

  2. One question for inter would you celebrate this scudetto if eventually you win it? Considering the depth of your team, money spent, the endless help from the referees and bad refereeing against Milan.

  3. I wouldn’t have wanted the handball to be given, and nor would have I accepted if given again. Regardless, Milan were never ever going to get a decision like that. We’ve seen that for weeks now. As for strakosha. the ball has hit messias and in the process of heading back towards, he has moved both hands to catch the ball. Again, a yellow card is fair but Milan were never going to get marginal calls.

  4. Seems like we don’t need ref favors to win. In a perfect world without refereeing mistakes Milan should be already at least 6 or 7 points clear at the top (when you consider blatant errors? and points stolen from Milan and gifted to Inter)

  5. You’re very correct @kieran. inter did beat what’s in front them like against Torino. Even ensured that they deny them of an obvious penalty.

  6. @O’Gabbs I agree the VAR has been more then generous to Inter, but that is why they have Marotta and to have pulled it off in Turin with Agnelli watching was pure genius. It is also why you must win those types of games. If you go to Salernitana and cannot win then it is your fault. The old Juve and new Inter never drop points on those types of grounds.

  7. @ Kieran

You make no sense. No team can win them all. Milan won what they won and lost what they lost. Salernitana and Bologna earned their points against Milan just like Sas and Fio earned their points against Inter.

Then we have the points that weren’t earned but gifted, like those stolen from Milan and gifted to Spezia and Udinese, and the points stolen from Torino and gifted to Inter.

So no, Inter haven’t done better, they were GIVEN more points.

  8. “The referee opted for a yellow because it was a ricochet, and therefore unintentional”

So he unintentionally caught the ball in both hands? Interesting.

“…his hands were in front of his body and did not make his silhouette any larger”

This has no bearing on wether this was red or yellow card. You are clueless

  9. Milan fans should be happy where they are now cause this team is nothing. Getting out of the champion league from group stage and playing 1 game a week helped Milan. I don’t see this Milan squad making it to the league title runners up again after this. This team will still be beating out of the champion league on group stage. Too physically with no technique team don’t make it outside Italy. Milan players are divers they can’t wait to be touch to go down. Just like Milan fans full of conspiracy theories. Ref against them.

  10. @O’Gabbs.
How about the points stolen from Inter and given to Milan in the derby when Giroud’s clear foul on Sanchez led to Milan’s equalizer and ultimately victory in a match Milan did not deserve to win? How about all the penalties gifted to Milan last season?

  11. I mean, that move by Strakosha wald have been illegal in volleyball. The ball going wide? Sure, but if he doesn’t take the power out of it with his hands, is Strakosha gonna be first to the ball? No way.

Happy that didn’t end up costing Milan points in the game. No point in discussing the games where it did.

  12. What a lie What milan achieved in Europe football no Italian team achieved them inter only know how to play in with all those WWW RAW players you having you wil never made it in Europe…FROZA MILAN

  13. @Anon

You think you are Einstein, may be haha. As for Milan, they received a record number of pks last season with Italian refs but Milanisti have fish memories it seems.

  14. @fransesco he/she is einstein indeed compared to you
How does last season’s penalties still relevant this season? But you couldn’t help yourself to dig that deep, could you?
Milan beat every big teams last season at least once which led them to 2nd place, and seems to be so this season too. You need to utilize your memories better, amd combine with some logic too
This season the ref tried to do Milan harm vs. Roma in both legs and Milan stil managed to win
And of course they stole 3 points from Inter when they already set to win by the ref and didn’t managed to do so. Remember 2 soft penalties in Inter vs Milan earlier this season?

  15. Milan claiming the team that scored most goals and conceded less actually got help from the refs is actually funny. Inter don’t even win by 1-0 but by 2-0 to 3-0 and all the matches are open for everyone to see. Compare that to Milan who are desperate in every match it shows that they’re demanding the refs to be on their side just to stand a chance. But I think it’ll come as a surprise to Milan fans but refs follow rules and can’t simply favour one team. If you’re crying that Milan don’t get favours is because they’re just avarage at best and every single incident is a potential bad/good result. Inter however can just win comfortably and not worry about those incidents too much

  16. who the F****ck are you talk about Milan for champions leauge 7 times champions the pride of italy all against Milan go F****ck yourself MIlan Forever till death

  17. I don’t even think it’s relevant what inter supporters think has happened. They have been curled by the referees this season.
They are certainly not a GREAT team, loads of has beens and over paid average players like vidal ,calhanoglu sanches etc.
Inter will burn and Milan prevail. Ffp is going to hunt inter down too.
Last but not least, i do believe that its quite obvious that its just not Milan supporters saying inter have the refs in their corner, its most fans. Look at the penalty not given to torino? The super light penalties against Milan. CALCIOPOLI 2022 INTERPOLI.
If inter doesn’t win the league with all the help they’ve been getting, they are clearly an inferior side that needs help to stay in the race. Otherwise Milan would be top with at least 6 points down to inter.

  18. @ Francesco

Good thing you don’t use two usernames to get your points across anymore. That’s some progress at least. What happened to your second personality @Antonio? lol

Still you’re talking our of your arse with this one username though. Yeah we stole points from all the teams in the league and managed to win against top 6 with a better head to head record along the way LMAO

  19. @Solointer, @Francesca

Anything to add about the topic at hand? Or are you here to talk about the pks from last season and your delusions about Inter, because you know you have zero arguments on the actual topic ?

  20. What we can conclude is that inter fans are happy when decisions go for them and unhappy when they don’t. This is regardless of whether or not they were the right decisions. Hypocrisy at the core.
I will add though that this season, inter will win because others have been even more inconsistent than them. It’s up to the other teams to raise their game so that these incidents don’t weigh too heavily in the long run. Inter picked up 7 points in 7 games at one point and that should have been enough to see them out of the race but others dropped too many silly points too.

  21. @Inter Per SEMPRE

The ball doesn’t look like it hits his knee before it hits his hand – although it says that in this article, in the slow motion it doesn’t seem to change direction at all (so even if it glances his knee, it doesn’t make a difference). Having said that, I think it would still have been a bit harsh because of the ricochet off Diaz, and them being very close together. But the fact is that this kind of penalty is given a lot these days, especially in Serie A.

  22. This Samy guy is so idiotic it is funny. He says Marotta pays refs (based on something his mother told him in the kitchen while he was doing the dishes) yet forgets that Marotta worked for juve before Inter. So was he paying refs then ? 🤔
