Referee Davide Massa will likely be suspended for at least three games in Serie A, but will return to the pitch in two days in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 between Lille and Chelsea.

Last night, Massa was the VAR referee of TorinoInter and is now in the spotlight after failing to signal a clear Andrea Ranocchia foul on Andrea Belotti (VIDEO). Both he and the pitch referee Marco Guida will reportedly face a three-match suspension, but Massa will return to the pitch this week already.

‘Enormous error, disaster’ what the media say about missed penalty call for Torino

The 40-year-old had been appointed for the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 between Lille and Chelsea on Wednesday and will regularly oversee the match.

His assistants in France will be Filippo Lei and Stefano Alassio. Massimiliano Irrati will be in charge of VAR. He is considered the best VAR referee in Italy and one of the best in Europe. Luca Pairetto will be the fourth official and Maurizio Mariani the Video Assistant Referee.

‘Even a two-year-old child would have seen Torino’s penalty against Inter’

  1. People don’t understand the importance of that 1 point gifted to Inter. If Inter had lost (which they should’ve) then Milan would have a 2 point lead even in the case of Inter winning their game in hand. That would’ve meant Milan had the safety of being able to draw another match and still retain the first place ahead of Inter (if they won theirs) on account of head to head.

Inter or some other team might yet end up winning the league by a few clear points in the end but as it is that error! (if we’re gonna call it that) could be a potentially huge decider, as it’s highly unlikely for any team to win all their remaining matches.

  2. We got robbed so many times this season, while our rivals have been getting helped by the referee and STILL, we’re currently first. Surely, it is gonne be such a sweet, poetic justice if we end up winning the title.

  3. Agree with @Milan Fan. That tie benefits Inter, and they did not deserve it. Inter’s goal in extra time was brilliantly played, but the game ought to have ended as a victory for Torino. Garbage non-call. Milan can’t drop any points to stay up on Inter.

  4. That penalty decision was no mistake as the VAR was not even checked. The hold up was probably some Italian soap opera drama being played out behind the scenes as the powers higher up could not fathom their beloved Inter being 2 goals down. Chelsea fans will not have to worry about this as they have more pressing issues at hand such a which oil baron will now buy that plastic club.
