Danilo D’Ambrosio argues that Inter are rarely protected: ‘There is always a reason to attack the team, the club and the coach.’

The Nerazzurri secured a 3-0 win in Empoli on Sunday, keeping their top-four hopes alive.

They have qualified for the Champions League semi-finals but lost 11 games from 31 in Serie A, so they don’t have a Champions League placement guaranteed yet.

“I have to say Inter is not always protected enough, from all points of view. I’ve been here for 10 years and I’ve seen every sort of thing,” D’Ambrosio told 90° Minuto on Sunday.

“There are always reasons to attack the club, the team and the coach. Those who have recently arrived have already understood how the atmosphere is here, we must keep our heads down and work hard.”

After Sunday’s win against Empoli, Inter sit sixth, two points below Milan and Roma in fourth. José Mourinho’s side have a game in hand, playing on Monday at Atalanta.

The Nerazzurri return to the pitch on Wednesday in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals against Juventus at San Siro. The first leg in Turin ended in a 1-1 draw.

They will play in the first leg of the Champions League semis on May 10 against their city rivals Milan.

D’Ambrosio, 34, started at the Stadio Castellani on Sunday and has made 18 appearances across all competitions this term.
