Napoli fans are furious with the referee and VAR after Juventus defender Federico Gatti was not penalised for hitting out at Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The incident occurred during the first half of the match at the Allianz Juventus Stadium.

The Italy international was tussling with his opponent when he seemed to clip Kvaratskhelia on the side of the head.

Although there wasn’t much power behind it, he did at least momentarily make a fist as he was landing the blow and his facial expression suggested nothing of a gentle nature.

Gatti seemed to immediately realise he had run a huge risk and rushed to apologise to both the Georgia international and the referee.

He was not even shown a yellow card and VAR did not intervene, as it could only have done so to recommend a red card for violent conduct.

According to DAZN refereeing pundit Luca Marelli, Gatti’s blow was not too far off the threshold for what could be considered a sending off for violent conduct.

Napoli fans online are furious at the decision to let play continue, especially just days after their protests at the Champions League quarter-final elimination at the hands of Milan.
