Lille defender Sven Botman reportedly wants to join Milan in the summer, so the Ligue 1 side have rejected Newcastle United’s latest bid to sign the Dutch defender.

The Rossoneri have been looking for a replacement for the injured Simon Kjaer in January and Botman was on top of their shopping list.

They were open to investing a conspicuous sum on a long-term replacement rather than getting a loan player until the end of the season.

Why Milan kept a low profile in the January transfer window

However, Lille’s reluctance to sell in the winter transfer window forced the Rossoneri to postpone negotiations to the end of the campaign.

Newcastle United have also made several attempts to sign the 22-year-old in the current transfer window and according to Calciomercato.com, the Magpies saw their latest €40m bid rejected today.

Botman is reportedly willing to join Milan at the end of the season, so he hasn’t pushed for a move to St. James’ Park in January.

The Netherlands international is not the only Lille player wanted by Milan who will also discuss Renato Sanches and Jonathan David in June.

  1. A load of utter tosh. Newcastle have spent nearly 100m in this window and will continue to spend in the summer. There is no way he himself has knocked anything back. As much as it is nice to think he prefers milan, we live in the real world. Newcastle are going places and they’d blow us out of the water with wages offered.

  2. @Rosario

Newcastle may also be relegated. A lot of players have knocked them back because they don’t want to sign a contract with a team that might be in the Championship next season.

But what you say definitely holds true if Newcastle stay up this season.
