Aaron Ramsey is on the verge of joining Rangers on loan from Juventus and Football Italia takes a look at what didn’t work out for him in Turin.
The Wales international moved to Turin on a permanent transfer from Arsenal in 2019 but has only played 70 games with the Old Lady, scoring six goals.
His first season in Turin was arguably the best one for him in a Black and White shirt. Juventus won the title under Maurizio Sarri and Ramsey scored a goal in a decisive match for the Serie A title against Inter.
It was also the first game played behind closed doors in Europe due to the COVID pandemic in March 2020.
Ramsey netted three goals in 24 Serie A appearances during his first season in Turin.
He collected similar playing time last term under Andrea Pirlo last term, when he scored twice in 22 Serie A appearances.
However, he has never been a regular starter in Italy and all Juventus coaches have failed to identify his best position on the pitch.
Often used a a Mezzala, so one of the three centre midfielders, Sarri sometimes deployed him as an attacking playmaker, while Massimiliano Allegri has tried to turn him into a deep-lying playmaker this season.

Safe to say, Ramsey does not enjoy covering that position and Football Italia understands there have been a few arguments with the Tuscan tactician during the first few months of the current campaign.
Ramsey has only played five games this term, starting only once.
The former Gunner has also been struggling with injuries, missing 34 games due to physical issues during his time at the Allianz Stadium.
The 31-year-old has also publicly complained about the club’s medical staff this season, irritating the club.
Being one of the highest earners in Turin with a €7m-a-year contract, Juventus have been looking for an escape route for a long time.
Rangers seem to be his next destination with the player’s agent in Scotland to finalise the agreement.
The 31-year-old is expected to move to Scotland on loan until the end of the season with part of the salary paid by the Bianconeri.
Main reason is because he didn’t get regular opportunities. It’s nowhere near as bad as VDB at United, but why bring in a guy and not play him? Ramsey is a legit player. He had some injuries at Arsenal beyond the big leg break, and that affected his consistency, but he was a very good player when healthy and in one season he was well beyond good. We’ve seen him for Wales, where he doesn’t even play as box-to-box. If you play him in that role, almost like Hamsik at Napoli, then you have a terrific player. Who knows how much he has left, but it’s less he flopped and more that the move was a flop. It’s not like he played poorly. And he was on a free. So, really, I don’t see it as a flop just a waste of his time. Arthur would be more of a flop, but again less to do with his flopping. Why isn’t Bentancur a flop? He wasn’t bad but he was never really good and he played a bunch.

He was very bad. Not as bad as Arthur, but very poor. He played a lot of games in his first couple of years – it’s disingenuous to say they never gave him a chance. He’s a pretty good player in a top league, but not Juventus calibre, not by a distance.
