According to several reports in Italy, Sampdoria are in advanced talks for the loan of Samu Castillejo from Milan as Sassuolo are reluctant to let Gregoire Defrel return to Marassi.

Castillejo is not in Stefano Pioli’s plans and has been heavily linked with a return to Spain in January.

However, according to Calciomercato.com and Sky Sport Italia, his future could be in Serie A, given that Sampdoria are negotiating his possible loan move.

Negotiations between the two clubs are reportedly ‘at an advanced stage’ and the deal could be finalised soon.

Sky Sport Italia reports Castillejo has already left Milanello.

Sampdoria need a new striker and their main target was Defrel. However, negotiations between the Blucerchiati and Sassuolo collapsed as the Neroverdi are unwilling to let the player leave on loan.

Their director Giovanni Carnevali has told Sky Sport Italia that Defrel could only move to Sampdoria under favourable conditions, insisting that he is still an ‘important player’ for Sassuolo.

Castillejo is a natural right-winger and not a classic forward and has only played five Serie A games this term.

UPDATE: According to Sky Sport Italia, Castillejo is not convinced about joining Sampdoria, club directors are trying to convince the player.
