Elsewhere, the newspaper believes Everton striker Moise Kean and Brescia’s Sandro Tonali could link up for the second qualifier against Liechtenstein.

Before that, however, they are expected to play for the Azzurrini in their European U21 Championship qualifier with Republic of Ireland.

Daniele De Rossi missed Boca Juniors 2-0 defeat to River Plate in the Copa Libertadores semi-finals but is still being considered for a farewell call-up.

As for the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Gaetano Castrovilli, Andrea Pinamonti and Mario Balotelli, they may have to wait until November or March.

Italy can book their place at Euro 2020 – their first major tournament for four years – with victory over Greece on October 12, three days before they face Liechtenstein.
