Nicolò Zaniolo scored on his Galatasaray debut and assures he wants to ‘play the Champions League’ with the Turkish club, as more reports emerge on that release clause in his contract.

The Italy international was sold by Roma in February for €15m plus bonuses and 20 per cent of any future transfer fee.

It was immediately reported that he was only making this a stopgap solution waiting so he could return to Italy, most likely for Milan or Juventus, in the summer.

“I have no intention of just staying here to wait for an offer and then go at the end of the season,” Zaniolo told Hurriyet.

“I want to win the title and then play in the Champions League with Galatasaray.”

He certainly got off to a strong start once the season resumed after a month of suspension following the devastating earthquake, as he scored within 15 minutes of his debut off the bench.

There continue to be different reports on what exactly his release clause consists of, as initially it was suggested there was a special section just for a return to Serie A.

Now Calciomercato.com claim the clause changes over time, so is set at €35m in the summer of 2023, then going down to €28-30m in 2024 and dropping to €23-25m in 2025.
