Harry Kane will lead Tottenham’s attack against Milan in Champions League tonight, but the England striker could have played in Italy much earlier as Livorno opened talks to sign him in 2013.

Kane made his senior Tottenham debut under Harry Redknapp in 2010-11 and a few years later he could have moved to Serie A on loan.

Livorno were interested in signing the promising English strikers and discussed a potential deal with former Spurs director Franco Baldini.

“It’s true, we discussed the deal in the summer of 2013 when we were preparing for a season in Serie A,” former Liverno boss Spinelli told TMW in 2015, as quoted by Gazzetta.

“Baldini mentioned Kane’s name, but we didn’t really begin a negotiation.”

At that time, Kane was worth circa €500,000 and had scored three goals in 10 appearances in his first senior season with Spurs.

Livorno ended up signing Innocent Emeghara from Siena for €1m to bolster their attack and could not avoid relegation that season, finishing last in Serie A with 25 points.
