Giampiero Ventura concedes Lazio were “totally superior” in the Coppa Italia, but was disappointed by Torino fans.

The Granata were jeered off the field after a 3-1 home defeat in the Round of 16 and a protest was aimed at President Urbano Cairo in the stands.

“The Martinez goal was the only positive thing tonight,” confessed Ventura. “There was an abyss between the two teams in terms of fitness levels and the relaxed state of mind that allows you to play the ball to feet.

“Lazio were totally superior, then Glik slipped and that led to the red card and penalty. That ended the game.

“We are struggling and had to play Jansson out of position. We need to analyse our problems with humility.

“Against Milan, Juventus and Club Brugge we created so many chances, but tonight we simply didn’t produce anything. Signing new players won’t solve the problem. We need the determination and hunger of last season.

“Unfortunately, at Torino the atmosphere is always a bit like this. It’s not easy to work here, as they blame the President, then a player, then the Coach… There’s always something they’re not happy with.

“I tried to communicate with the fans at the beginning, then realised it was difficult. This isn’t helping, but we have to be stronger than what’s around us.”
