With reports Roma are in talks with Andrea Belotti, the rumours grow of Tottenham Hotspur negotiations for Nicolò Zaniolo.

Several different sources in Italy today suggest that Roma have offered Belotti a deal worth €3m per season, as he is a free agent after his contract with Torino expired on June 30.

With Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham also there, it all suggests that there won’t be much room for Zaniolo.

Juventus have momentarily turned towards other objectives, as they cannot currently afford the €50m asking price and have other priorities.

According to Footmercato, Tottenham Hotspur are the new favourites and currently having exploratory talks with Roma to see Zaniolo’s availability.

The 23-year-old Italy international saw his career stalled by two serious anterior cruciate ligament injuries, but last season found the net eight times with nine assists in 42 competitive games, helping Roma to win the Europa Conference League.

Antonio Conte has never disguised his admiration for Zaniolo and would relish having the former Inter youth player in London.

9 thought on “Tottenham talking to Roma for Zaniolo”
  1. Why would Mourinho let a team that sacked him have an up and coming talent like Zaniolo, I’m pretty sure that Mourinho isn’t a fan of Conte either

  2. I find the whole Zaniolo to Spurs hard to believe. Why would Mourinho give the captain’s armband to someone that Roma were trying or planning shortly to sell? Furthermore, selling Nico would weaken the team. Roma don’t need to sell him. So, why do it?

  3. All talk at this point Mattinho. No discounts on Zaniolo if he were to be sold. Certainly hope he doesn’t head to Spurs because I’m not really a fan of Italian players playing in England. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong here but Italian players aren’t really successful when playing in England.

  4. I completely agree, the football in Italy has much more skill and less physical whereas the Premiership is rougher on the body, more impact and faster paced. That’s why I think Italian players struggle, but also older players leaving the Premiership and coming to Italy have a longer playing career and more time on the ball hence why they get better with age (not all) but a fair few.

  5. Its true about the PL but Zaniolo is all pace…thats basically the best skill along woth being a physically gifted athlete. So..hes perfect for the PL. I dont see him thriving in serie a kid just wants to run at defenders all day long.

  6. @Matthew Jorginho, Zola, Di Matteo, Vialli, Di Canio, Carbone, Macaroni, Ravenelli, Pelle all did pretty well.

  7. Juve bought bernardeschi for 40m years ago, yet they don’t wanna spend that much on Zaniolo. I don’t get Juve ( as a juve fan ). weird decisions

  8. Times have changed and so have budgets, Brian. Current numbers don’t reflect values. Well, not that Bernardeschi’s did.
In the end, Zaniolo remains a horrible character that should by all means be exported outside Serie A.
He surely has the talent to retain the 0 trophies at Spurs. (No, Audi cups don’t count)
