Ajax have beaten Bologna and Sassuolo to Italy Under-21 international striker Lorenzo Lucca, as the Pisa hitman becomes the first Italian to join the Dutch giants.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the two clubs have now agreed all the details for the transfer, which will be on loan for €1m with option to buy for a further €10m plus bonuses.

The centre-forward turns 22 in September and has two goals in five caps for Italy at Under-21 level.

Lucca hit the headlines at the start of last season when he scored seven goals in the opening eight games of the Serie B campaign, but he was never on the scoresheet again after that remarkable run.

He has been compared to Gianluca Scamacca and World Cup winner Luca Toni for his eight, standing at 2.01m tall (circa 6ft7in).

Lucca originally came up through the Torino youth academy, spending time at Vicenza, Brescia and Palermo before the sale to Pisa in 2021.

He will become the first Italian to sign for Ajax in the club’s history.

  1. Very overated. How can you go from scoring 6 goals in first few league games to then not scoring for the rest of the season. I think he will flop at ajax, very average player.
