England CT Gareth Southgate has included Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori in the squad for October’s World Cup Qualifiers. ‘I was very impressed’.

Tomori has played once for England previously, when he was at Chelsea, but the defender joined Milan on loan last January and then completed a permanent move this summer.

He made his debut for England against Kosovo in the qualifiers for EURO 2020, but was not included in the squad for the Finals.

Tomori is now back in the squad and Southgate reveals why re recalled the former Blues defender.

“I was very impressed,” he said, according to MilanNews. “I thought he finished well last season.

“We were following him last season and he is playing well this season. He is in a club that should win every week, I think he did well against Liverpool and Juventus.”

The 23-year-old has established himself as a vital played in the Rossoneri defence, and has appeared in all Serie A games this season and the two Champions League defeats to Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

The defender, born in Calgary, Canada, scored his first and only Milan goal against Juventus last season and has played 30 competitive games since joining the Diavolo in the fashion capital.

  1. I knew it would only be a matter of time. There’s not an English centre back that can comepare to him for speed, physicality and his ability to read the game. Kyle Walker is a decent centre back but the RB in him is always wanting to get forward and he’s not as solid defensively. Well deserved!

  2. Well deserved, only thing I don’t like about it is potential for injury, which is a very real concern when your club is AC Milan.

  3. Now he cost 150 million euros.

All top English clubs would like to sign him as he is not only one of the top center backs on the world, he also know how to build play from the back. And he is also english player and they love to spend big on English players.

    But milan wouldn’t sell him.

  4. I don’t think Milan would want to sell him. The club isn’t desperate for money, he’s recently signed a contract for a reasonable amount. Unless there’s massive money involved there’s any need for a sale.

  5. Not that we were waiting on an anti footballing ‘enigma’ that is Southgate to tell us of Tomori’s worth. Tomori doesn’t play like an English centre back. In fact, how he wasn’t in the euro 2020 squad whilst lumps like Ming was is beyond a joke.

Purely from a selfish point of view, it was good he was discarded by England. Kept him fresh for Milan.
