The FIGC Federal Council has approved the prohibition of owning multiple clubs in Italy, to avoid cases like the one involving Claudio Lotito and Salernitana.

In existing cases of owners having shares in multiple clubs, ANSA reports a transitory discipline time was given for the disposal by the beginning of the 2024-25 season.

Official: Salernitana are officially returning to Serie A after 23 years

The interested parties have thus two and a half years at their disposal to solve the current situation, as the report revealed the FIGC Federal Council has prohibited any corporate participation in more than one professional club.

This means cases like the one involving Lazio owner Lotito and Salernitana – when the newly promoted club risked being excluded from the top flight due to the ownership of two teams in the same division – are history.

The news agency reports the FIGC President Gabriele Gravina confirmed the new rule of multiple ownerships.

“Not only will absolute control of the club be categorically excluded, but it will not even be possible to have any participation,” he said.

The leagues concerned will have to adapt their statutes and regulations by October 20, 2022.
