Florian Thauvin confirms he received an offer from Milan in January and insists he didn’t join Tigres ‘because of the money.’

The 28-year-old left Marseille at the end of his contract, and the Rossoneri were one of the clubs interested in securing his services.

The Serie A giants had been in talks with the French winger who eventually joined Mexican side Tigres.

“I had received an offer from Paolo Maldini in January, but Lyon and Atletico Madrid had also made me a proposal. Marseille offered me a contract extension, but then Tigres arrived,” the 28-year-old told Multimedios Deportes.

“I don’t like to talk about the money I am not in Mexico for this reason. I was offered a lot of money in France, Italy and Spain. If I wanted to play for the money, I would have moved to China or Saudi Arabia.

“Here in Mexico, there is everything to be happy: football, fans, a great club and desire to win. I have everything here.”

According to several reports in Italy, Thauvin wanted a salary in the region of €4m-a-year to join the Rossoneri, while Tigres offered him a five-year, €5m-a-year deal.

Milan remain on the lookout for a new attacking winger, and Sassuolo‘s Domenico Berardi is one of the players linked with a move to the Stadio San Siro.

Marcel Sabitzer is another player who, according to Bild, is on the Rossoneri’s radars, although Roma and Arsenal have also set their sights on the 27-year-old under contract with Leipzig.

Milan have already completed two signings in the summer transfer window: first Mike Maignan and then Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea.

However, the Rossoneri have seen both Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu walk away from the club as free agents.
