Former Inter and Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Orsi comments on Antonio Conte’s latest claims: ‘That’s what he does when things don’t work out.’

The Italian tactician threw his future at Tottenham into doubt following their fourth defeat in the last five Premier League matches.

“I think Tottenham called me to improve the situation, but I’m too honest. I’m too honest to close my eyes, you understand, and to continue to say ‘ok I want to finish the season in this way and ok my salary is good’,” he said after Tottenham’s 1-0 loss against Burnley yesterday.

“But I’m not this type of person. I have ambition, I’m a person who has ambition, I hate to lose and we lost, I repeat, four games in the last five games. And for me, I repeat, this is unacceptable.

“I won’t accept this. I want to try to improve the situation and also to make assessment with the club because if we continue in this way, maybe we have to pay great attention because in this league we can finish 10th, 12th, 13th the same way that when I arrive here, the same position.”

Conte questions Tottenham future: ‘I must talk to the club’

Conte already left Inter and Juventus in the past because of his different views on the clubs’ future.

“Maybe Conte was wrong to go there,” Orsi told Radio Radio.

“He was attracted by money and by the league. Maybe he went there a little too fast, thinking that Tottenham were on a higher level.

“We know Conte. He shoots when things don’t work out. Maybe he can have a bigger impact when he starts the season than when he arrives in the middle of the campaign.”

Conte has won 11 of his 21 games in charge of Tottenham, losing seven and drawing three. He was unbeaten in his first nine Premier League games in North London but lost four of the following five matches.

He signed with Spurs in November and his contract expires in June 2023, but it remains to be seen if the ex Italy coach will remain in charge until the end of his deal.

  1. THIS has to stop, “things don’t go well” on Football Italia! With all due respect, this site is about ITALIAN FOOTBALL, but you turned it into a place where Italians spoke about english football. Ok, Spurs are coached by an Italian, and another Italian has an opinion about that issue, but, at the end of it, there are just chatting about english, I repeat. Or, most of us are seeking here news and opinions about calcio, about Serie A and Squadra Azzurra. That’s it. Please reconsider your agenda!

  2. @CETATEANU you need to take a chill pill. It’s not that serious; besides Conte is Italian, the Premier league is an interesting league and he just left Serie A. So calm down there fella. I also enjoy the bit of news we get from the EPL.

  3. @Mr Morrati
I was here just for pasta and pizza. Just don’t pack and sell me fish&chips, even if they are cooked by an Italian MasterChef. Simple as that.

  4. I don’t know about anybody else but I like knowing that in England Conte is getting visited by Del Piero for brunch and then later that day Conte drives over Ranieri’s palatial loft for dinner as they discuss all things Italian.

  5. @CETATEANU – I absolutely agree. Saying Conte is Italian is just a convenient excuse that doesn’t hold much water. I see more news about Conte, Ronaldo and Lukaku on this site than about most clubs that play in Serie A, even though neither Ronaldo nor Lukaku are Italian. Just yesterday I saw an article about Bruno Fernandes, even though the guy hasn’t played in Italy for years, wasn’t drawn against an Italian club in UCL for the Round of 16 and isn’t linked to an Italian club. I’m sure Marchisio has spoken about loads of players who have moved from Italy to Spain but that never gets published on this site does it. Bear in mind, there was hardly any reporting of Conte when he was managing Chelsea or Ancelotti managing Everton. I rarely see anything of Ancelotti now even though he’s at Real Madrid, a much bigger club than Tottenham. Clearly, there has been a recent strategic shift here at FI to draw more EPL fan boys to the site by publishing as many EPL articles and editorials as possible. Shame that they don’t have faith in their brand and would sell out just for a few more views.

  6. @CETATEANU: I`m totally with you on this. Have posted several comments already that I`m sick and tired of all this EPL talk on Football ITALIA.

Seems like nobody cares, so I guess we should just leave.
