Luciano Spalletti confirmed Roma are down to “the final details” in Francesco Totti’s new contract.

The captain’s current deal is set to expire on June 30, but the club offered an extension so he can continue playing despite turning 40 in September.

“He has to work out the final details on the contract, but we have finally found a solution,” Spalletti told Tuttomercatoweb at an awards ceremony today.

The Giallorossi Coach was at last night’s Coppa Italia Final between Juventus and Milan, won by an Alvaro Morata goal in extra time.

“It was a game with few scoring opportunities, all dictated by the importance of what was at stake. Milan put in a fine performance and deserved something more, but Juventus confirmed themselves a real team. I want to compliment Max Allegri.

“Can Roma break Juve’s domination of Serie A? We’ve improved over the years, but the Bianconeri are like a warship.”

There are reports Miralem Pjanic could go to Juventus if they activate the €38m release clause.

“He is a champion, has quality and always sends his teammates clear on goal.”

The awards ceremony was in Florence and Spalletti revealed a childhood fondness.

“I spent my childhood here and have great memories. As a kid I always came to see Fiorentina play.”

Could he end up on the Viola bench one day?

“It’d be difficult for me, as I would have to do better than those who have already been here. Cesare Prandelli, Vincenzo Montella and Paulo Sousa built great teams.”
