Milan captain Davide Calabria looked frustrated after being replaced in the second half against RB Salzburg yesterday, making way for Sergiño Dest’s debut with the Rossoneri.

The Italy international started the game at the Red Bull Arena but was subbed off after 56 minutes, being replaced by Barcelona loanee Dest who joined the club on loan on the deadline day.

Calabria looked frustrated once he sat on the bench, but Pioli’s tactical substitution aimed to create more attacking threats for the Austrians.

Dest is a full-back but has also been deployed as a winger in his career, so he is more attacking-minded than the Rossoneri captain.

10 thought on “See: Dest makes Milan debut, but Calabria is frustrated”
  1. He was on a yellow card and those tricky Salzburg forwards were running at him relentlessly, so subbing him off was absolutely the right thing to do.

I thought Dest had a good debut. Let’s see if Calabria can raise his level even higher now that he has serious competition, and I fully expect him to do it. He’s done it before.

  2. Calabria was subbed off because of the yellow card and also to rest him for the sampdoria game.

This Dest guy is not what this team needs, Calabria Gives Theo the opportunity to runs forwards and create many option in the attack, Calabria completes the team more than dest

  3. His frustration started in the lead up to when he got booked. He was annoyed at something. Either himself or a team mate.

@ Milan Fan Competition’s not necessarily a good thing if it brings instability. Calabria’s our captain. He needs to be guaranteed. He’s our Henderson.

  4. @Maldini’s Heir – So if Calabria’s levels drop you still start him simply because he’s our captain?? Last season Romagnoli was still our captain and didn’t start much. You make no sense. Competition for a starting spot is a great thing otherwise you end up with Calhanogu-style contributions.

  5. U guys obviously haven’t been watching milan much this season. Calabria has been horrible as captain, it’s like he can’t be both captain and a functional player at the same time, he can’t cross, shoot or add anything to our attacking play (I admit he is still pretty awesome at defense). Calabria, don’t worry about the captaincy and go redevelop and focus on the technical aspects of your game, or u will be another captain who regressed in skills, aka romagnoli

  6. Calabria isn’t good enough for this CL-level, not good enough for this Milan team. Never was and allegedly never will be. Debut Sergino Dest looked a lot more promising, even if he only played about 30 minutes.

  7. @ ACM1899: forget that MaldiniHeir guy, he’s obsessed with “Italian blood” – as guys like him put it. So fed up with those redneck nationalists. Wake up, it’s 21s century now, go get a life dudes.
