According to reports in Portugal, Andrea Pirlo is one of the candidates to take over at Benfica after the sacking of Jorge Jesus.

The 67-year-old is expected to leave the club and an official statement from Benfica is imminent.

The Portugal giants sit third in the table, but the relationship between most of the players and the coach has collapsed and club President Rui Costa will be forced to sack the experienced tactician.

The Milan and Fiorentina legend met the boss in the morning and Verissimo, the coach of Benfica B, will be in charge of the following training sessions, according to reports in Portugal.

Verissimo will likely be appointed as an interim coach, but Rui Costa is already considering his options for the future.

According to Record, former Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo is among the candidates to take over at the club.

Pirlo and Rui Costa played together at Milan, winning one Champions League.

Pirlo’s coaching career began with a one-year spell at Juventus, where he won one Coppa Italia and one Italian Supercup, which were not enough to be confirmed for a second season.
