Franck Kessié is unlikely to sign a contract extension with Milan and according to reports in England, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham are in pole position to secure his services at the end of the season.

Kessié’s current deal at San Siro runs out in June 2022 and the Ivorian star is unwilling to sign a contract extension with the Serie A giants.

Milan have offered him a new €6.5m-a-year deal, but the player demands a new contract in the region of €8-9m per season.

According to The Express, Tottenham are leading the race to sign the former Atalanta man as a free agent.

Arsenal and PSG have also been linked with securing the player’s services.

Conte has made Kessié one of Spurs’ priority targets for the summer and Tottenham director Fabio Paratici is already in talks with the player’s representative.

Conte refused to provide an update on January transfer negotiations during one of his latest press conferences.

“Honestly, at this moment, I cannot answer that,” he said.

“Now, my focus is to work with the players to improve the situation. Then for sure, we will have a meeting with the club to try to understand if there is the possibility to improve the situation in terms of transfers.”

  1. It doesn’t make sense… paying 40m to Atalanta for his service, develop him and let him go for nothing. Milan can’t afford such meaningless businesses like this. Wtf is this.

  2. Well, Conte always wanted him, guess he’s gonna get him now.

It’s a strange situation, Milan both can’t let him go and can’t keep him, for various reasons. This thing is a new movement that’s happening in the world of football, led by agents. Every year, more players refuse contract renewals and let it run out to get double the salary for themselves elsewhere with a nice, fat commission for their agents as well.

The only solution for the future is for clubs to renew with players once they reach the last two years of their contracts. If they refuse, sell them immediately. If they refuse other destinations leave them on the stands for the last year of their contracts. This is the only way to somewhat protect the clubs.

  3. He has a better chance of playing CL next season at Milan. I’m not saying thats 100% after watching Milan lately but no way Spurs will get top 4 in England.

Still some hope he might sign with Milan but its not looking great. Another big loss on a free transfer.

  4. COVID19 pandemic driving reduced budgets for clubs and condensed seasons with shorter windows created this perfect storm of potential free agents.

When these guys who had their contracts expire in June 2021 or to expire in June 2022 should have been sold or extended in 2020 ghe footballing financials were in crisis caused by uncertainty.

Milan happen to be the biggest victim having lost Donnarumma and Calhanoglu with Kessie and Romagnoli set to follow. Similar scenario faces my JUVE with Dybala anf Bernardeschi.

With something like normal transfer business resumed, players that don’t sign will be sold (albeit at lower priced than pre-pandemic)

  5. Milan can cash in now or lose him for free – their choice.

Should have renewed much earlier, I mean he`s probably their best midfielder.

  6. Kessie has looked laboured and lazy all season, if another club wants to give him the money he is asking for then good luck to him, he should take it, he was on £10 per week in 2014 so I don’t hold a grudge for him wanting the most he can get. Will it be a loss to Milan? Yes ofc but he’s just not a 8-9m a season player, I personally think he will struggle in the premier League and it would be a bad move for him as as player, good luck whatever he chooses.

  7. We need to make sure of the Vlahovic signing, he is a must in January. Levy had better not leave us short again up front, no other striker is worth paying good money for, buy the best if you want results.

  8. . I guess he goes to Spurs and becomes their best midfielder. He is great but if I were him I would never go to a club without prize cabinet.

  9. @Az, although such scenarios are really frustrating, I appluad the Milan‘s management decision. If he thinks that he is a world beater and looks after only the money, then there is very little to be done honestly.

  10. Milan Fan is right.

If they don’t sign a new deal a year before their current one ends, sell them. If they don’t sign, let them rot.

Milan have lost a fortune in players leaving on Bosmans in recent years. You’re looking at 150 million for Donnarumma, Calhanoglu, and Kessie.

For a broke club and a broke league, that’s just not acceptable.

Sell him in January for 10m or something. Better than nothing.

  11. Losing players like this to foreign clubs not just affecting the selling clubs, but the league also, so they has to find a solution for the good for everyone.
The lega always find a way to punishes their member or makes controversial decisions but never make innovation that benefit them
