Domenico Criscito has just become a father for the third time, but can’t meet his daughter yet because the Genoa captain tested positive for COVID-19 – again – along with his entire family unit.

The defender welcomed little Alice into the world on December 27 and posted an Instagram message praising his wife for being able to face a difficult birth, as she had also tested positive for COVID-19 over the last few days.

“Once again you proved how strong you are, my love, facing birth while testing positive and alone is not easy, but you were once more a force of nature,” wrote the Italy international.

“I am so sad not to be there with you and can’t wait to have you back home. Welcome, Princess. Daddy is waiting for you with open arms.”

Alice is their first daughter after having two sons together.

The news was updated with an Instagram Stories message posted today, confirming the virus has spread throughout his household.

“After the children, wife and nanny, it couldn’t avoid me too. Damned COVID… After being positive a year ago and having two doses of the vaccine, it’s back to annoy me…”

Genoa had released a statement on Christmas Eve confirming that a member of the matchday squad, but not one of their players, had tested positive for COVID-19.

Genoa were the Serie A club to be hit hardest by the first wave of COVID in 2020, as they at one point had 12 players and staff out of action, forcing some games to be postponed.

That included Criscito, who was ruled out by the virus from September to October 2020.
