Il Corriere dello Sport claims the American owners have met with Boniek, who was in Rome when Manchester United arrived for the second leg in the Europa League semi-final.

The newspaper claims the 65-year-old, who retired after three years as a player at the Giallorossi in 1988, met with the Friedkins around the time of the match against the Premier League giants.

Boniek is currently working as President of the Polish FA and has previous experience as a coach with Lecce, Bari, Sambenedettese and Avellino in Italy.

The former Juventus and Roma player, capped 80 times by Poland, retired after 156 Serie A games and helped Roma win the Coppa Italia in 1985-86.

During his stint with Juventus, Boniek picked up the Scudetto in 1983-84 and the European Cup in 1984-85.
