Moise Kean reportedly left the Italy training camp not due to injury, but because he was not sufficiently ‘interested’ in playing the Under-21 European Championship.

The Juventus striker was one of several players who dropped down from the senior squad to the Under-21 side so they could participate in the tournament that runs through June to July in Romania and Georgia.

They include Sandro Tonali of Milan and Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, all happy to work with coach Paolo Nicolato to bring silverware to the Azzurrini.

However, Kean left the camp yesterday due to an undisclosed issue and the wording raised a few questions around the circumstances, suggesting this was not an injury.

According to Tuttosport, Kean was simply ‘not interested’ in playing the European Under-21 Championship and was told he may as well go home.

This is hardly the first time Kean has been in trouble with the Nazionale, as he was subjected to disciplinary action at Under-19 and Under-21 level.

It seemed fairly sudden, because just hours before the announcement of his exit, coach Nicolato had been discussing the situation with Kean in his press conference.

“All he needs to do is what he knows, he has the characteristics to be decisive. He’ll be of use if he has the right attitude and I am only bringing along 23 players who have a clear desire to remain. I have no reason to think Moise is not among them.”
