Claudio Ranieri believes Leicester City winning the Premier League is like Catanzaro winning Serie A.

The former Juventus and Roma Coach has steered the Foxes to the English title, overcoming odds of 5000-1 at the start of the season.

“It’s something indescribable,” Ranieri acknowledged, speaking to Il Secolo XIX.

“The world turned their attention to us, watching us. I’ve received calls from all over the world.

“Leicester was the Cinderella who was going to win the richest League in the world, so everyone loved it. I’ve never believed in fairytales, but I never lost hope.

“I was only sure of the win after the final whistle of Chelsea-Tottenham. I was sure they [Chelsea] would do their best, and after the final whistle I phoned [Guus] Hiddink and thanked him six or seven thousand times.

“I never said to my wife ‘we’ll win the Premier League’ but at Sunderland, the longest away journey, we got there and there were so many guys and their kids with our shirt, so after the game I thought of them.

“A comparison? Leicester winning the Premier League is like if my Catanzaro won the League, or if Sassuolo did it today.

“Next season will be hard, but we’re aiming to finish in 10th place or higher.”
