“Juventus are still a great team,” the midfielder told Roma TV.

“They lost Andrea Pirlo, Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal, who were probably their most important players, as their experience and hunger helped them remain at a high level.

“But the Bianconeri did very well on the market and remain a strong side that will fight for the title. After all, they’ve won four in a row.

“We must continue to get as close as possible and hopefully overtake them this year.”

Roma are boosted by the arrival of Lucas Digne, Mohamed Salah and Pjanic’s Bosnian teammate Dzeko.

“He hasn’t been here long, but Dzeko will be an important player and a new weapon for our team. He gives another dimension to our play and I think he did well against Verona last week.

“He desperately wanted to win the match, but we had to make do with a draw. He is very happy to be at Roma and even before signing we talked every day.

“He memorised the entire fixture list as soon as it was announced! He was determined to come here and really wanted Roma.”
