“Obviously Milan are the favourites, but we mustn’t transform our very nature for this fixture,” said the Coach.

“We won’t change our style of football, instead focusing on playing well. We have the chance to make up for last Sunday’s performance.

“We played well in the first half against Chievo, then had a physical and psychological dip that coincided with the three goals we conceded.

“Now we have to wipe all that from our memories and focus on getting back on track.”

Milan also lost their opening game of the season, falling 2-0 to Fiorentina with Rodrigo Ely sent off.

“It’s still Milan and on paper are comfortably the favourites. I expect them to push hard and want to make a good impression in front of the home crowd.

“We trained well during the week and this squad has hard work in its DNA.”

Giampaolo faces a tough task to replace Maurizio Sarri after the well-loved Coach moved to Napoli.

“I have not taken anything away from the Empoli of last season, but am trying to add something to make it even more competitive.

“I love organised teams who can be spotted by their shape and I’m trying to bring a few more ideas in.”
