Nottingham Forest have announced that their new director of sport is former Watford and Brescia chief scout Filippo Giraldi, another Italian to take on an important role in the Premier League.

His claim to fame was discovering the likes of Richarlison, Etienne Capoue, Joao Pedro, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ismaila Sarr.

Considering Nottingham Forest are also rumoured to be on the verge of sacking coach Steve Cooper, it’s possible Giraldi could point towards a Serie A alternative.

There are now several Italian figures having a real influence in English football, not just on the field, but above all off it.

Antonio Conte is the manager at Tottenham Hotspur, working alongside his former Juventus colleague Fabio Paratici as their managing director of football.

Roberto De Zerbi was just appointed as the new coach of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Now Nottingham Forest have brought in Giraldi as their new Sporting Director.

It is not entirely a new experience for him, as Giraldi worked in England at Watford as chief scout from 2012-17 and then director of sport from 2017 to 2020.

Watford are, of course, owned by the Pozzo family, who also run current Serie A surprise outfit Udinese.

Before that, Giraldi was at Brescia as their chief scout and spent nine years as a director at Prato.
