Lazio fans publicly displayed their support for Sven-Goran Eriksson after the former coach’s recent cancer diagnosis.

The 75-year-old Swede, who spent over a decade working in Serie A for a variety of clubs including the Biancocelesti, Roma and Sampdoria, recently revealed that he’s been diagnosed with terminal cancer, giving him roughly a year left.

Eriksson was in the dugout for the most successful spell in Lazio’s history, guiding them to a Scudetto, a UEFA Super Cup, two Coppa Italia, two Supercoppa Italiana and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in a three-year spell from 1997 to 2000.

As highlighted by TMW, Lazio fans held up a banner supporting Eriksson in the Stadio Olimpico just ahead of their clash with Lecce, publicly stating their affection for their former coach. The banner read: “The battle has begun. Mr Sven, we’re with you!”

An experienced coach, who also spent over five years at the helm of the England national team, his recent reveal has left the world of football stunned and saddened.
