Although he has played here with Roma in the Coppa Italia, this is Mourinho’s first Serie A visit to San Siro since leaving the club.
The coach, who does nothing by accident, walked out onto the turf a few minutes before the Inter squad during the warm-up.
That allowed him to soak up the applause and atmosphere, including chants of his name, standing in the centre-circle to take the spotlight.
The cheers for Mourinho were louder than for the Inter players, splitting the crowd in this must-win game for the Scudetto race.
