Roma boss José Mourinho seems to have changed his approach with Tammy Abraham and told reporters to ask the England international if he is thinking about the World Cup.

Abraham became the most prolific debutant in Roma’s history last season, scoring 27 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions.

He hasn’t been able to offer the same contribution this term, netting just three goals in 18 appearances.

Mourinho was asked his thoughts on the former Chelsea striker and his reply was somehow surprising.

“You should ask him what’s the problem. If he is distracted, if he has a problem or if he thinks about the World Cup.”

Mourinho had always defended Abraham in his previous meetings with the media. Back in October, he said that his issues in front of the goal regarded the whole team, but he seems to have changed his approach now.

Abraham, 25, has scored two goals in Serie A so far, the last one was in an away 2-1 win over Empoli on September 12.

  1. Hardly been thrown under the bus! And how many primavera players has mourinho moulded and given minutes to with Volpato the most recent.
How do you go from being a prolific goal scorer in your first season to doing diddly squat in almost half the second season. Mourinho is correct , clearly something is going on with him esp when he can’t convert open goals. He’s paid to score and at his stipendo and with Romas lack of goals up front it’s a huge concern.

  2. Quite frankly, its been like playing a man down. I really like him but he’s been inguardabile this year. We would be in a much better position in League and Europe if he could actually score a few more

  3. Roma is losing cos of their attackers not necessarily their defenders. I also noticed that midfielders don’t have d shooting skills from outside the box…

Roma runs out of ideas up front with unintelligent transition play and positioning. The forwards run out of ideas and start falling all over looking for free kicks and penalties…. and still look up to the defenders to come and score for them from the free kicks and corners….

The attackers have many offside positions and even high offensive fouls….

  4. That could be a good question to put to him. He is the ideal person to answer to you: ‘Yes, I have a problem, no, I don’t have a problem, yes, I’ve been missing, no, I haven’t been missing, I’m thinking about the World Cup’ … I don’t know. He is the right person to answer you. You need to wait for him to do a press conference so you can ask him that question.”

That is what he really said.!

  5. Mourinho has done his own. Let Abraham respond. How can England Coach.pick.him.for the World Cup with this performance. I.foubt if the coach will select him.

  6. Thanks, Frankie Lee

Milan Fan, you probably meant: “Will Chelsea activate their option on Abraham?” Roma already commited to purchasing Tammy. Chelsea has a 67M £ buy-back option on him at the end of this season.
Which, after the Lukaku experience, I do not believe the Londoners will go for, even if Tammy scores over 20 goals in the second part of the Season.

  7. *commited to purchase Tammy.
Stupid FI censor has me rewording my perfectly innocent and normal sentences.

  8. He has been poor in attitude. No fight after a blocked chance, rather a focus on exclaiming. He seems distracted, essentially focused on being clinical. But Mou should have benched him and let him get his act together.
