Former Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini hopes more Serie A clubs will launch their second team, following the example of the Old Lady.
The ex-Italy international spoke during the Golden Boy ceremony in Turin, where he received an award named after Juventus legend Gaetano Scirea for his charity activity with the NGO he founded, called ‘Gli Insuperabili.’
Juventus youngster Fabio Miretti was one of the players awarded in Turin on Monday and Chiellini praised the 19-year-old.
“I think Fabio mirrors what has been done by Juventus [at a youth level], I texted him a few weeks ago when there were a few problems,” said Chiellini.
“I am happy for him, he deserves all he is receiving. I hope other clubs will follow this project. Unfortunately, they haven’t done it so far, but I see that young players who deserve it are being launched.”
The ‘project’ Chiellini talked about concerns second teams for Serie A clubs, which only Juventus have established.
The Bianconeri launched their U23 squad, playing in Italy’s Serie C, in 2018. It’s been called ‘NextGen’ since this season and has proved to be a crucial step for Primavera players preparing to get promoted to the senior team.
Among them is, Miretti, a product of Juventus academy who made his senior debut with the Bianconeri in May 2022.
