Jose Mourinho believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Juventus is ‘fantastic’ for Italian football and thinks it could motivate the Old Lady’s rivals.

The Portuguese forward signed a four-year contract with the Serie A champions, joining from Real Madrid in a €100m deal.

And speaking after his Manchester United side beat Milan on penalties last night, the former Inter Coach explained how although Juve may continue to dominate the Italian top-flight, other teams now have added incentive to beat them.

And speaking after his Manchester United side beat Milan on penalties last night, the former Inter Coach explained how although Juve may continue to dominate the Italian top-flight, other teams now have added incentive to beat them.

“Ronaldo to Juventus is fantastic for Italian football,” the Red Devils boss said of his compatriot.

“The Bianconeri have been dominating for years and now it will be even easier with a player of his quality.

“But I think it could also be an extra motivation for their rivals.

“Maybe Juventus’ superiority could give a push to teams like Milan, Roma, Inter and Napoli.”

Mourinho's United were eventually victorious over Gennaro Gattuso's Rossoneri last night, winning 9-8 on spot-kicks after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
