Former Juventus full-back Marco Motta is “defining my contract” with Queens Park Rangers.

The 29-year-old spent the second half of last season with Watford, having been released by the Bianconeri, and is looking to remain in English football.

“A trial at QPR? It wasn’t exactly a trial,” Motta explained to TuttoJuve.

“QPR wanted to judge my physical condition, because I’ve been out of action for a few months. I’m currently in England, I’m happy to be here, and I’m defining my contract, I haven’t signed.

“Right now, what’s important for me is the project on the pitch and that’s why I decided to wait a bit of time. That’s what counts for me, and I’m enthusiastically ready for this new adventure.

“Last year I played at Watford and achieved, against all odds, promotion to the Premier League.

“From there, I fell in love with English football, which I’d known since I played for Juve and Roma against Manchester City and Arsenal.”

Motta’s time in Turin was not successful, with the right-back heavily criticised in his first season, then sent out on numerous loans.

“There’s no doubt that when there are a lot of changes it takes everyone time to adapt, as Milan have shown in recent years.

“Injuries didn’t help, I’m thinking about [Fabio] Quagliarella who did his knee, or my back injury. That forced the Coach [Gigi Del Neri] to change his team every Sunday, and you saw the results of that on the pitch.

“There were definitely extenuating circumstances, because it was a Juventus which was coming from seventh-place and has undergone a huge number of changes.

“We needed time, but nobody in Italy knows how to wait. We won almost every game against the big teams, the defeats came against the smaller sides.

“That was basically the problem. It was a particular period.

“Certainly when Juventus finish seventh then everyone is to blame, from the technical staff to us players. Just like when you win, the blame has to be shared.

“I learned so much from the experience though, it was a pleasure and I’m happy with the choice I made.”
