Most Serie A clubs are returning to individual training this week, but as there is no agreed medical protocol, Milan are reportedly resisting COVID-19 swab tests until they are authorised.

The Government’s scientific committee had rejected the first version of the medical protocol, calling it ‘insufficient,’ so a new and updated list will be discussed tomorrow.

Meanwhile, individual training sessions are allowed throughout Italy as of this week, although the clubs are careful to call this ‘voluntary’ rather than work.

Meanwhile, individual training sessions are allowed throughout Italy as of this week, although the clubs are careful to call this ‘voluntary’ rather than work.

Instead of running in local parks, the players can run on the training ground pitches, where it is easier to guarantee social distancing.

They are also undergoing swab and blood tests, as well as full medical screenings, before being allowed to enter into full training, which should be from May 18.

However, as the protocol is not set in stone yet, some clubs are going their own way, with Milan standing out.

The Rossoneri will open up the training ground doors at Milanello tomorrow, but according to calciomercato.com, not COVID-19 swabs.

It’s reported this is because the club is concerned that these tests should not be used up on players and staff when the region is still the hardest-hit by the pandemic.

They are instead waiting for the official authorisation from the Government and local services.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Franck Kessie are still abroad, so will need a 14-day quarantine period before they can set foot in the training ground.

Elsewhere, Atalanta, Bologna, Inter, Juventus, Lazio, Lecce, Sampdoria, Sassuolo and Udinese have already started individual training sessions, with Roma from Thursday, Torino Friday and Parma to resume from Monday.

Brescia, Fiorentina and Napoli have only performed blood tests and thorough medicals so far.

Cagliari, Genoa, Hellas Verona and SPAL are holding on until there is some more certainty over the medical protocol and whether the season will resume at all.
