There has already been controversy in Serie A this season, so coaches met with referees today to discuss their approach to officiating, although Jose Mourinho and Maurizio Sarri stood out.

With only three rounds played in the current campaign, there has been no shortage of incident, including the AIA (Referees Association) confessing Bologna were denied a clear penalty in the 1-1 draw with Juventus.

As is tradition during a break for international duty, the AIA hosted a meeting with Serie A coaches to talk over this season’s interpretation of rules and regulations.

It is hoped this will help coaches and consequently also players to better understand the decision that referees take during the games.

The meeting was held at the VAR centre in Lissone, near Milan, where all the screens are located and a hub of officials unite to both train officials and then evaluate the games as they happen.

However, not all the coaches attended, as notable absentees included Roma boss Mourinho and Lazio tactician Sarri.

“This meeting represented a moment of sharing,” explained AIA President Carlo Pacifici.

“The more we get to know each other, the more we encourage respect, because at the end of the day we are all on the same side.”
