Former Inter President Massimo Moratti says the club ‘must return to the Champions League’, preferably by winning the Scudetto.
The oil tycoon sold the club to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir in 2013, but retains shares in the club, and continues to offer his opinions on the Nerazzurri’s direction.
“Inter must return to the Champions League,” Moratti declared, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Inter must return to the Champions League,” Moratti declared, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport.
“If we can do it by winning the Scudetto, so much the better. Has the gap to Juventus reduced? I think so, but the pitch will decide that.”
Moratti also revealed he was part of sanctioning the €40m signing of Geoffrey Kondogbia, beating city rivals Milan to his signature.
“Thohir called me, because by the statute he must have my consent for deals above €20m. I immediately felt very strongly it was the right move, and was happy to give my ‘ok’.
“In his phonically he asked me if I’d sign him, and I said yes, even though the risk was entirely Thohir’s.
“It was an important buy for everyone, for the needs of the team, to allow [Coach Roberto] Mancini to work more calmly and to shake things up and bring enthusiasm.
“I saw him play on TV, not enough to make a reliable judgement, but when I spoke to the Coach I was sure he was the right man.
“He chose Inter because we want to take that leap to the next level together.
“Beating Milan? If it had become an auction it would have been dangerous. Here the differences were mininal.
“The double satisfaction doesn’t stem from a desire to see them do badly, but the fact that in this city we’re always watching each other.”
