Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah could be heading to Serie A on loan, as Milan, Inter and Roma are all looking for a low-cost centre-back alternative.

According to The Athletic, the Stamford Bridge side is prepared to let Chalobah leave on loan in order to get more playing time.

However, they will only make it a dry loan, so without any option or obligation to buy at the end of the season.

That format could suit some clubs who in Serie A are looking for players to act as understudies for the first choice centre-backs.

Those would be Milan, Inter and Roma, who are all still in the running for new defenders.

Chalobah just turned 23 last month and his brother Nathaniel had a brief spell on loan at Napoli in 2015-16.

Inter’s first choice in defence is Manuel Akanji of Borussia Dortmund, but with a €20m asking price, they are more likely to go for Lazio veteran Francesco Acerbi.

Milan have today abandoned talks with PSG for Abdou Diallo and MilanNews.it report they could end up keeping Matteo Gabbia, so might not even require a new defender with Simon Kjaer returning to full fitness after knee surgery.

As for Roma, they already have several English players in the squad and would perhaps be best placed to bring in Chalobah.
