Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is set to receive only his second start in goal for France when they face Croatia in the Nations League tomorrow.

The shot-stopper was named best goalkeeper of the 2021-22 Serie A season and many consider him the key figure behind the Rossoneri’s Scudetto triumph.

That sort of form also caught the attention of France manager Didier Deschamps, as RMC Sport claim Maignan will play in goal for Monday’s Nations League clash with Croatia, replacing Hugo Lloris.

It will be the third senior cap for the 26-year-old, who made his debut as a substitute in October 2020 during a 7-1 friendly win against Ukraine.

His only previous start was in a 5-0 friendly victory over South Africa on March 29, 2022.

France suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Denmark in their opening Nations League match, with Maignan’s Milan teammate Theo Hernandez in the starting XI.

Maignan will turn 27 next month and had a magnificent debut season in Serie A, despite six weeks out with a wrist injury.
