La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that he would like to wait and see what the American consortium promise if and when their offer to buy Roma is successful.
Mexes' agent has already hinted that if his client does sign a new deal it will include a minimum fee release clause.
"For me there are more important things," Mexes said. "Now I am thinking about Roma. If I hurt myself, for example, everything changes.
"I have to think about many things. I am happy in Rome. I have a calm conscience."
Roma also have to resolve the future of another talismanic player in Simone Perrotta, as his contract is also due to run out.
