Gennaro Gattuso has apologised for his touchline brawl with Joe Jordan. “He was winding me up, but I lost my head.”

The Milan midfielder and Tottenham assistant manager had been trading barbs during the game, which saw Spurs emerge 1-0 winners from San Siro.

There was also a shove from Gattuso, but the tension exploded after the final whistle with the pair going head-to-head.

“At the end of the game I lost my head. I take full responsibility,” confessed Gattuso.

There was also a shove from Gattuso, but the tension exploded after the final whistle with the pair going head-to-head.

“At the end of the game I lost my head. I take full responsibility,” confessed Gattuso.

“I did something that I should not have done. Jordan was winding me up for the entire second half, but my reaction was unjustified.

“I was irritable because of the words that we had exchanged earlier on. We were speaking in Scottish, but I won't reveal what we said. I was wrong to do that to an older man and I apologise. Will there be a ban? I await a decision.”

Jordan is a former Milan player from the 1980s, while Gattuso is certainly familiar with the language as his wife is Scottish and he is an ex-Glasgow Rangers man.

Peter Crouch scored the winning goal, so it's an uphill struggle for Milan, especially as Gattuso will be suspended for the second leg.

“We played badly in the first half, better in the second, but Tottenham got the goal. We'll give it our best in London.”
